Kathleen J. Edwards, R.N., 65, of North County Road 600W, died at 1:50 a.m. Sunday, March 9, 2014, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Kathy received her nursing degree in 2001 and was employed at Columbus Regional Hospital for 10 years. As a caring mother, Nana, sister and friend, she enjoyed being with loved ones. Whether on vacation in Panama City Beach, huddled together around a camp fire, or at a simple dinner at home, spending time with family and friends was important to Kathy.
Born in Indianapolis Oct. 7, 1948, Kathy was the daughter of Emil Joseph Spanik and Margaret Shea Spanik. She married Michael L. Edwards Nov. 28, 1964.
Survivors include her mother, of Indianapolis; her husband; a son, Michael J. (Kelley) Edwards, Columbus, IN; a daughter, Jennifer (Larry) Meade, Columbus, IN; brothers, Michael (Liz) Spanik, Washington, and Dennis (Edna) Spanik, Indianapolis, IN; sisters, Mary (Pat) Smith of Indianapolis, Patricia Perry of Columbus, IN, Karen Spanik of Indianapolis, IN, and Ellen Kopetsky of Indianapolis, IN; granddaughters, Lauren Meade, Riley Meade, Claire Edwards and Carly Edwards; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father.

I am so saddened by Kathy’s passing. She was an incredible lady. She helped me through a pretty rough time and I will always be greatful to her. RIP dear Kathy.
Her laugh, her stories, her love for family will always be remembered. The Goins Family.
My sincere sympathy to all of you – a wonderful lady who always had a smile, shared a story, knew or found the answer and whom I had the pleasure of knowing most of her years at CRH. Thankful the opportunity to have known her.
I was saddened to hear of Kathy’s passing. She was a consummate professional, and a wonderful friend.

To Kathy’s family, I cant begin to tell you how saddened I am about Kathy’s passing. She was one of the kindest people I have ever known and had a smile for everyone she met. My last encounter with Kathy was this past October. She, again, was doing what she was best at….helping others…making their lives a little easier. I will miss her so much…Prayers for all of you.

I was very sad to hear that Kathy had passed away. She touched many lives with her kindness and her willingness to help anyone in need. Kathy had a smile that would light up a room and a heart to match. I knew Kathy when she worked for Dr. Cooper and also at CRH,and we had been friends over the years. I will miss my dear friend each and every day. I love you…
I will always remember the happy times spent with our girls in so many dance classes decades ago. Rhonda and I will miss you so very much. Most of all I will remember the quick and easy smile I saw on your face each time we happened upon each other. My thoughts are with your family and a special little hug for Jenny from Rhonda who was able to work with you as a fellow nurse. Where has all the time gone.
Kathy never met a stranger. She was kind, thoughtful, generous, loving. She was my go to person for advice about any and everything. My brother Mike and Kathy married when I was just 10 years old, which has been a long time, 49 years. She was like a second mom to me. She touched so many lives with her warm loving personality. She was a beautiful lady, inside and out. We have lots of wonderful memories of family time spent together. Those are the times I will cherish the most. RIP Kathy, you are loved by many.
From the first time I met Kathy over 10 years ago, I knew what a special person she was. She had a special connection with her sister, Ellen that was precious. She always had a smile on her face. I enjoyed every visit to her home and spending time with her at the family get-togethers. She and Mike and all of her family accepted me into their lives as if they had known me forever. I will miss her!!!
Thank you for teaching our mom how to make biscuits and gravy. We will think of you every time we enjoy it!
Kathy was not my Aunt by blood but she has always been Aunt Kathy to me. The relationship between Mike and Kathy and my parents has taught me that nothing in life is more valuable than a friend. Thank you for teaching me what a hog roast is and who Garth Brooks is. I will cherish my memories of Aunt Kathy forever.
Aunt Kathy let us make a mess of everything. She always said, “Well shoot,” she was sarcastic, funny and had a great sense of humor. Thinking about you all and remembering that smile!

I, too, worked at CRH. And this is where I met this sweet kind lady. She was always eager to help me with her beautiful smile and those gorgeous blue eyes. Those two things immediately stood out, but then once you sat down to talk to her it was her kind, caring, sweet soul that captured you next. Thank you, Kathy for everything that you did for me professionally, but as another human being. You went above and beyond for me and I will be forever grateful that our paths crossed here on earth. I will look forward to seeing you in our Eternal life in Heaven.

Kathy wasn’t just my sister. She was my mentor, my sounding board, my cheerleader, my biggest fan and my best friend.
We shared many fun times, had a lot of laughs and too many to count, memories!
Everyone loved Kathy! She had a personality that everyone migrated to.
I can’t express enough how sad and heart broken I am that I can’t pick up the phone to call her or just stop by the house for a visit. Thanksgiving won’t be the same, as life won’t be the same without her.
She’s been a caretaker for many people..me included and I’m forever grateful.
Kathy, I love you and miss you terribly. I know you’re at peace and I’m grateful for that. We’ll be together again.
Thank you for being there for me and my family. For pushing and pulling me through some good and bad times and just know that you’ve always been a hero to me.

I met Kathy @ CRH and she always had a smile that was glowing. I appreciated her when she helped me with my medical leave last summer. She will be missed! So sorry for your loss.
