Jerry Wendel, 69, of Forsythia Drive, died at 10:10 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2012, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. He was born in Columbus, March 31, 1943, the son of the late James and Betty Wendel. He married Kim Kelly on November 22, 1967. She survives. Jerry was previously employed at Hoosier Parts in Columbus, Kelly Leasing Inc. in Columbus,and most recently at Quality Mill in Franklin. He was a member of East Columbus Christian Church, and was an avid collector of music records from the 1950s and 1960s genre, various sports memorabilia and a variety of soda makers throughout the years. Jerry was also a member of the local "HOG" chapter, where he enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle. He enjoyed watching IU basketball, Indianapolis Colts football, and NASCAR racing on television in recent years. His later years have been devoted to supporting and watching his grandchildren in their sporting and school activities. He is also survived by a son, Jody (Shari) Wendel of Columbus; a daughter, Tia (Scott) Anderson of Columbus; grandchildren, Sydney and Avery Wendel and Harley and Hunter Anderson; brothers, Jim (Mary Margaret) Wendel of Tampa, Fla., and John (Diane) Wendel of Columbus; and a sister, Carol (Don) Bloom of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his parents. SERVICES: FUNERAL SERVICES: Private services will be held on Wednesday, June 6 at Garland Brook Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Bridgewater officiating. VISITATION: Will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. BURIAL: Will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. MEMORIAL DONATIONS: May be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana, 2626 17th St., Columbus, IN, 47201 or East Columbus Christian Church, 3170 Indiana Ave., Columbus, IN, 47201.

So sorry to hear about Jerry, I was just asking mom about if she had heard anything from him, Jerry used call me “Red” for my red hair, we were neighbors at flintwood, and Jerry would come to the house and ask if I could come out and play baseball with him, it was early 70s, its been 40 years but I will always remember those days, Jerry taught me alot about baseball, I’ve allways missed Jerry and those great times! Rest in peace Jerry
