Pauline S. Cox, 90, of Columbus, Ind., died at 4:55 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at Regency Place in Lafayette.
Born June 23, 1920, in Portland, Ind., she was the daughter of the late James and Bessie Mabel Snyder.
On April 8, 1939, she married Charles E. Cox, and he preceded her in death on July 7, 1998.
Mrs. Cox retired from Bartholomew County Hospital after 20 years of employment where she had worked as an licensed practical nurse. In 1984, she was named the LPN of the year by the League for Nursing.
She was a longtime member of East Columbus Christian Church, where she sang in the choir. She had been a member of the Grange since 1934, where she held both local and state offices.
She participated in the home-ec club choirs, both locally and at the state level, and sang in Columbus with the senior citizens group "The Silvertones." For many years she spent seven months of the year in Fedhaven, Fla., where she led the keyboard musical group the Key Broads and George.
Surviving are a son, John D. Cox (wife: Anna) of Chesterfield, Mo.; and four daughters, Kay C. Beach and Ellen Gelzleichter, both of King, N.C., Barbara A. Hull (husband: Lloyd) of Columbus and E. Gail Vonderheide (husband: Randy) of Lafayette.
Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Snyder; a sister, Miriam Allison; and 2 grandchildren.
Funeral Information
FUNERAL: 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, Columbus, Ind., David Armstrong officiating.
CALLING: 2-4 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
BURIAL: Garland Brook Cemetery, Columbus.
