John Zieleniuk, 78, of Columbus, died at 1:09 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Mr. Zieleniuk was born in Poland March 13, 1932, the son of Ignacy and Olga Liviniuk Zieleniuk. When he was 19 his family immigrated to America August 17, 1951, thru Ellis Island, New York.
He was sponsored by the Presbyterian Church and later moved to Indiana and worked for Henry Breeding of Taylorsville for five years. During that time he met John Berzajs and aided in the construction of the big barn on the Breeding Farm. He then started 35 years of working for John Berzajs, doing the kind of work he loved in the field of masonry.
Mr. Zieleniuk married Anna Adams Sept. 14, 1956. He became an American citizen in 1961.
He enjoyed gardening and fishing and raised the best blueberries in town. Throughout his life, John loved to bowl and was a member of Columbus Bowling Association for more than 35 years.
One of the greatest things in Johns life was his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife; sons, John L. (Wanda) Zieleniuk of Hope and James M. (Tammara) Zieleniuk of Columbus; a daughter, Janenne V. (Rebecca) Zieleniuk of Columbus; grandchildren, Jeff Zieleniuk, Candace Rainwater, Carrie DeFoor, Heather Zieleniuk, Natasha Zieleniuk, Tabitha Zieleniuk and Michael Zieleniuk; great-grandchildren, Lydia Zieleniuk, Christopher Zieleniuk, Lilly Zieleniuk, Emma Zieleniuk, Makala DeFoor and Lucas DeFoor; and a sister, Vera (Kennith) Merideth of Columbus
Funeral Information
FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Saturday, September 18, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Father Athanasius Wilson officiating.
CALLING: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 17, and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday.
BURIAL: Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.
