Jon David Chapple, 67, of Hope, died at 1:15 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at his home after a short battle with cancer.
David retired from Cummins Engine Company after 41 years of service. He had been a Cub Scout leader and youth sports coach in Hope, was an avid camper and sports fan and enjoyed boating, NASCAR, working around his home and attending his grandchildrens activities. He also enjoyed golf.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and a veteran of the Indiana National Guard.
Mr. Chapple enjoyed wintering in Sanibel, Florida, the past 27 years.
Born in Columbus Nov. 15, 1942, Mr. Chapple was the son of Paul Frederick and Ruth Fulkerson Chapple. He married Dorothy Maxine Taylor May 9, 1970.
He is survived by his wife; sons, Christopher (Janet) Chapple of Columbus and Jon (Tessa) Chapple of Indianapolis; daughters, Amy (James) Dager of Columbus and Susan (John) Shutty of Clarkston, MI; grandchildren, Michelle and Amanda Shipley of Columbus, Dominic and Kristen Dager of Columbus, Elizabeth, Jacob, Noah, Rachel and Mary Shutty, all of Clarkston, MI, Ryan Chapple of Columbus and Jonah, Emerson, Campbell and Cooper Chapple, all of Indianapolis; brothers, Mark (Gina) Chapple of Columbus, Philip (Linda) Chapple of Greensburg, Steven Chapple of Columbus and Joseph Chapple of Baltimore, Maryland; and a sister, Sara (Max) Kuhns of Columbus.
Funeral Information
FUNERAL: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Douglas Baughman officiating.
CALLING: 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday.
BURIAL: Garland Brook Cemetery.
