Wilbur Louis Horn January 12, 1918 - October 28, 2009 Wilbur Louis Horn, 91, of Taylor Road, died at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at Four Seasons Retirement Center. Wilbur was a lifelong member of St. Peters Lutheran Church and was confirmed in 1932. He served the church as an elder and chairman of the board of elders. He also enjoyed Sunday and Wednesday Bible classes and studying the Bible. Wilbur served with the Army during World War II in the 35th Infantry as a rifleman, was on the front line for 90 days, and was held as a prisoner of war for 150 days. Later in life, he enjoyed telling children about his life experiences during the war and how his Savior gave him comfort and the strength to endure. Wilbur and his wife Edelle loved to travel with their two boys throughout the United States. Wilbur began working for Cummins in 1950 and retired from there in 1982. After retiring, he went to Hawaii and Germany twice, Alaska and Canada. He also traveled as a volunteer to Mexico with a medical team, where he loved teaching children to sing Jesus Loves Me. Wilbur loved Gods Word and spreading it to others wherever he went. Born in Bartholomew County Jan. 12, 1918, Wilbur was the son of Philip and Louise Hoeltke Horn. He married Edelle Robertson July 17, 1939. Surviving are sons, Alvin (Connie) Horn of Seymour and Glenn (Sharon) Horn of Columbus; grandchildren, Tracy Fair-Horn, Todd (Magdalena) Horn, Travis Horn, Darby (Larry) Stewart, Dundee Horn, Cynthia Schroeder, Stephanie Dickherber and Christina (Greg) Forbes; stepgrandchildren, Robin (Doug) Hammer, Marvina Horn, Sheila Fair, Jerry Baxter, Billie Jo (James) Gentry and Melisa (Mike) Villarreal; 29 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edelle; a son, Louis Lynn Horn; brothers, Earl Horn, Clarence Horn, Simon Horn, Paul Horn and Albert Horn; and sisters, May (Horn) Deaver and Norma (Horn) Johnson. Funeral Information FUNERAL: 10 a.m. Saturday, October 31 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Patrick Galligar officiating. CALLING: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 30 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
