Velta M. Douglas May 17, 1932 - October 19, 2009 Velta Marie Douglas, 77, of Hartsville, died at 11:20 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, 2009 at Columbus Regional Hospital. Marie was very active at the First Church of the Nazarene. She was formerly employed with the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation in the cafeteria at Rockcreek Elementary School and Millers Merry Manor as a housekeeper. Marie was born May 17, 1932 in Brownstown, the daughter of Charles Peter and Faye England Silence. She married James E. Douglas Oct. 14, 1960. He survives. Other survivors include sons, Ronald D. (Peggy) Strong of Seymour and Steven Ray Douglas of Pearland, Texas; a daughter, Connie (Gene) Kimbler of North Vernon; a sister, Ruth Ann Blount of Oklahoma; grandchildren, Troy, David and Russell Strong, Lori Fields, Kristy Carpenter, Shane Kimbler, Sandy Kiewitt, Ruth Ann Koner, Ronnie Jo Crosier, Darla Price, Wendy Flach and Stephen Douglas Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Ruth Ann Strong Betz; brothers, Bob Silence, Melvin Silence, Marvin Silence and Lloyd Silence and a sister, Thelma Huff. Funeral Information FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Thursday at First Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Bryan Soloman officiating. VISITATION: 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. BURIAL: Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.
