Opal M. Carmichael June 11, 1920 - September 30, 2009 Opal M. Carmichael, 89, of Columbus died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, at her home. Mrs. Carmichael was a homemaker and was of the Wesleyan faith. Born June 11, 1920, Mrs. Carmichael was the daughter of George and Velva Wood Brown. She married Robert T. Carmichael March 24, 1945. He preceded her in death Sept. 29, 2003. Mrs. Carmichael is survived by sons, Robert B. Mike (Linda) Carmichael, Paul R. (Wanda) Carmichael, Stephen W. (Wonda) Carmichael and Mark R. (Mary) Carmichael, all of Columbus; daughters, Janice Carmichael and Joyce Smiley, both of Columbus; grandchildren, Scott (Sheila) Woodruff, Robert Woodruff, Christopher Smiley, Jeremy Carmichael, Kristen (Bryan) Leonard and Shaina Carmichael; and great-grandchildren, Annika and Abigail Woodruff. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, Virgil, Verle, Curtis and William Buddy Brown; and sisters, Bertie Leonard and Alma Lemley. Funeral Information FUNERAL: A private family service was conducted Monday at Christiansburg Cemetery with the Rev. Guy Armstrong officiating.
