Stella Margaret Eckerly, 83, passed away May 1, 2009. She was born October 21, 1925 to Edward McDonough and Margaret (Blake) McDonough in Boston, Massachusetts.
Stella received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Simmons College in 1946 and worked after college at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She met George Eckerly in Boston during World War II. After marrying in 1950 in Roslindale, Massachusetts, they moved to Columbus. She spent her years in Columbus raising four children and staying active in the community. She was a 50-year member of Psi Iota Xi sorority, and was a member of St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic church, which she served through active participation in the Altar Society, school events and the Daughters of Isabella.
Her memory is cherished by her husband of 59 years, George S. Eckerly; four children: Edward Eckerly and his wife Vivian; Anne Eckerly Lazarz and her husband Larry; John Eckerly and his wife Dawn; Susan Eckerly and her husband Terrence O'Donnell; one sister, Gertrude Stockman of Hingham, Massachusetts; nine grandchildren: Jodi Rivera and her husband Mike, Jennifer Eckerly Avila and her husband Ramiro, Jill Eckerly, Joe Eckerly, Julie Eckerly, Peter Lazarz, Gregory Lazarz, Brian Eckerly, Carol Eckerly; and five great-grandchildren.
The Eckerly family expresses a special thank you and much appreciation to the staff and nurses of the Columbus Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral Information
FUNERAL: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Clem Davis at St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 5, at 10:00 a.m.
VISITATION: There will be no visitation.
BURIAL: Burial will be at Flatrock Baptist Cemetery.
