Betty Joan Hall Cookson, 74, of 28th Street died at 7:58 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mrs. Cookson was part owner of the Holiday House, was the first person to own the post office branch in Holiday Center, owned Vogue Beauty Salon for 20 years and, for the last several years, was employed at Sally Beauty Supply.
She attended school in Columbus, was a member of American Business Womens Association and attended Community Church of Columbus. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and sports, especially racing.
Born in Westport Feb. 16, 1934, Mrs. Cookson was the daughter of John and Mabel J. Mourey Hall. She married Billy G. Cookson April 15, 1952. He preceded her in death Oct. 9, 1997.
She is survived by a son, Jeffery Cookson of Columbus; daughters, Sheryl Baker of Columbus and Diana Dee (Kenneth) Shafer of Columbus; a brother, John R. (Barbara) Hall of Fort Wayne; a sister, Lucille Vickrey of Decatur, Ill.; grandchildren, Andy (Melinda) Baker, Bradley Baker, Jason (Mindy) Setser, Jennifer Shatto, Christine Hilderbrand and Charles Hilderbrand; and great-grandchildren, Johnathon, Ethan, Ashton, Lydia, Ella, Gunner, Jarret and Taylyn.
She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Charles R. Hall and Thomas Dick Hall; and sisters, Margaret Holden, Mary Schroeder and Gladys Mole.
Funeral Information
VISITATION:Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 5, 2009 and from noon until service time Friday.
FUNERAL:The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Adam Carrigan officiating.
BURIAL: Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
