Corbin F. Blackerby October 19, 1984 - September 04, 2008 Corbin Foster Blackerby, 23, of Franklin Street, died at 8:40 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, at Columbus Municipal Airport. Corbin was born Oct. 19, 1984 in Indianapolis, the son of Elby Wayne and Sharon E. Helmerich Blackerby. In 2002, Corbin graduated from Columbus North High School where he was a National Merit Commended Student and the recipient of the 2002 National UPS Scholarship as well as many other academic and performance scholarships. He attended Ball State and Indiana University where he studied musical theater and vocal performance. While at Indiana University he was a member of The Singing Hoosiers. Corbin's passion was the theatre and he performed in more than 40 plays and musicals. Corbin was a devoted supporter of community theatre. He championed and directed numerous Mill Race Players productions. Survivors include his parents, of Columbus; a brother, Caleb Fitzgerald Blackerby of Columbus; a grandmother, Wanda June Helmerich; aunts and uncles, Sandra and Kurt Hunt of North Vernon, Jerry and Jackie Blackerby of Seymour, Sue and Marvin Reynolds of Butlerville and Larry and Cheryl Blackerby of Bloomington; cousins, Samuel and Bradley Hunt, both of North Vernon, as well as numerous other cousins. He is also survived by passionate and devoted friends, Mary Clerkin, Ryan Hontz, Emily Thayer, Rich Yi, Allison Lindhorst, Cameron Welch, Megan Mullett, Sarah Kittle-Mara, Alexa Zeller, Sharon Sung, Patrick Andrews, Lisa Loew, Janie Gordon and John Johnson. Corbin was preceded in death by his grandparents, Eugene Foster Helmerich, Joyce Blackerby and Robert Earl Blackerby. Funeral Information SERVICES: The memorial service for Corbin will be at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008 at Judson Erne Auditorium at Columbus North High School with Father Clem Davis officiating. All those who loved him and were touched by his gifts are invited to celebrate his life and pay tribute to his contributions to the arts and to his community. Donations Information Corbin's' greatest love was for his baby brother. To fulfill Corbin's wishes the family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the Caleb Fitzgerald Blackerby Scholarship Fund in memory of Corbin Foster Blackerby through Irwin Union Bank.
