Ruth M. Halvorsen September 22, 1918 - July 24, 2007 Ruth M. Halvorsen, 88, of Columbus died at 5 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Mrs. Halvorsen was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder and deacon, and was a volunteer at Columbus Regional Hospital. Born in Newbern Sept. 22, 1918, Mrs. Halvorsen was the daughter of Elmer and Ella Brown Miller. She married Raymond P. Halvorsen Jan. 12, 1946. He preceded her in death Jan. 1, 1981. Surviving are sons, Thomas Halvorsen of Blowing Rock, N.C., Richard (Brigitte) Halvorsen of Columbus and Lars (Julia) Halvorsen of Charleston, W.Va.; grandsons, Arne and Erik Halvorsen; and great-grandsons, Aiden and Kristian Halvorsen. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and eight brothers and sisters. Funeral Information FUNERAL: 10 a.m. Friday, July 27, 2007 at First Presbyterian Church. VISITATION: 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. BURIAL: Garland Brook Cemetery.
