Harry E. Freeman April 21, 1922 - February 27, 2007 Harry E. Freeman, longtime resident of Mead Village in Columbus, passed away at 9 p.m. on Feb. 27, 2007. He had been a resident of Columbus Health & Rehabilitation Center since 2003. Mr. Freeman was born April 21, 1922, in Jackson County, Ind., the son of Urby and Olene Freeman. In November of 1942, Mr. Freeman joined the Army and served in World War II. He was awarded a Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Eastern-African-Middle Eastern medal with four Bronze Campaign Stars and the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged and was separated from the Army at Camp Atterbury in October 1945. On Feb. 4, 1949, he married Betty Sosh of Uniontown, Ky., and they moved to Columbus in 1953. He worked for Repp & Mundt Inc. for over 40 years as a construction superintendent and estimator until he retired in 1987 as a vice president. Mr. Freeman was involved in many fine building projects in the city including North Christian Church. Mr. Freeman is survived by his wife, Betty, a longtime associate of the American Red Cross in Bartholomew County; two sons, Michael Freeman of Nineveh and Nelson Freeman of Newburgh; two daughters, Sara Green of Columbus and Nancy Towe of Madisonville, Ky.; three brothers, Sandy Freeman and Bobby Freeman of Medora and Ray Freeman of Seymour; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Ralph Bud Freeman and Glen Freeman, both of Medora. Mr. Freeman was a longtime resident of Columbus, having lived over 50 years at his home in Mead Village. He enjoyed reading, collecting books, IU basketball and gardening. Funeral Information VISITATION: Thursday; March 1, 2007 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and also Friday; March 2, 2007 from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service.
