James Arthur Belding September 25, 1928 - June 22, 2006 James Arthur Belding, 77, of Columbus, passed away at 11:17 a.m. Thursday, June 22, in Columbus. Born September 25, 1928, in Findlay, Ohio, he was the son of Nelson Oliver and Irene Vogel Belding. He married Joan Marling on February 9, 1952, at St. Ambrose Church in Seymour, Ind. The retired marketing director at Force Construction and Design, he worked in the building and construction field most of his life. He was a graduate of Shields High School in Seymour and the Indiana University School of Business. He was a member of St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, serving as president of the Columbian Corp., and he directed the planning and construction of the Council 1414 building in Columbus. He also was involved with the Columbus Redevelopment Commission and the Elks Club and was a volunteer with the American Heart Association and the Jaycees. He served in the U.S. Army attached to the Air Force in Seoul, Korea, in 1952-53, and he served in the U.S. Army Reserves until 1960. He was honored as the Veteran of the Day at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World in Florida on December 14, 2003. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, of Columbus; sons, Mark (Mary) Belding of Champaign, Ill., Brian (Donna) Belding of Bloomington, T. Matthew (Karin) Belding of Missouri City, Texas, and Christopher and Samual Belding, both of Columbus; grandchildren, Kathryn, Benjamin, Ashlyn, Alexander, James Riley and Ethan; and a sister, Wilma Jean (Maurice) Wright of Greenwood. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Charles Belding; and two sisters, Elizabeth Peggy (Leonard) Rubens of Wisconsin and Marge (Norvel) Montgomery of Seymour. He was devoted to his family and liked nothing better than spending time with family and friends. Funeral Information FUNERAL: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 26 at St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church. VISITATION: 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 25, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, with a Rosary Service at 5 p.m. Calling also will be from 10 a.m. until service time Monday, June 26, at the church. BURIAL: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Riverside Cemetery in Seymour, with a military graveside service conducted by the Jackson County Veterans Color Guard. Donations Information MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Bartholomew School or Hospice of South Central Indiana.
