January 9, 1928 ~ March 20, 2019

On Wednesday, March 20, 2019, Jane D. Sohn passed away at the blessed age of 91.  Jane was born on January 9, 1928, in Indianapolis, the daughter of Donald and Gladys F (Deer) Dungan.  She received her Journalism degree from Franklin College in 1950. In addition, she was a sorority member of Pi Beta Phi and Old Main Society Donor of Franklin College. On July 29, 1950, she married John Peter Sohn. Jane was born and raised on a beautiful Indiana countryside farm just outside of Franklin. Her love for gardening stemmed from an upbringing on a farm.  She was an avid member of Let's Grown Gardening Club and the Grandview Garden Club for decades. She incorporated her love for plants in just about everything she did, including endearing customs such as giving specific flowers that bloomed only during seasons of loved ones' birthdays. The number of books she read throughout her lifetime would be a staggering number. She knew the importance of keeping her mind active.  She loved and lived by the water, both Grandview Lake and the Atlantic Ocean on Hilton Head Island. Jane had a giving soul and was known to send cards and gifts in a meticulous manner.  Her attention to detail was inspiring and will be dearly missed. Jane was an active member of the community she lived in. Not only was she a member of the sororities and gardening clubs, she also was a member of the Columbus Culture Club, Tri Kappa, First United Methodist Church, and was an affiliate member of St. Andrew's By the Sea Methodist Church in Hilton Head. We invite all her loved ones to envision that Jane Sohn is driving her Volkswagen convertible, listening to some Willie Nelson, with her golf clubs in the back, ready to meet up with her girlfriends.  Then later Jane and John will play a game of cribbage where they will accuse each of cheating and laugh for eternity together. They had an amazing life together full of love and companionship and have left many memories for friends and family to cherish. She will especially be remembered for her generosity- all guests were always welcome even if they were coming for the summer from another country. Both John and Jane were world travelers and spent every other year somewhere in Europe just to be with their Swedish relatives. Survivors include her sister, Helen (Lee) Hodgen of Franklin; sons, John Brent (Angie) Sohn of Columbus and Daniel (Ann-Katrin) Sohn of Nykvarn, Sweden, and a daughter, Suzanne (Mitchell) Hilderbrand of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; grandchildren, Jonas (Mathilda) Sohn, Emil Sohn, Rachel (Will) Barnes, Jill Sohn, Elliot (Tessa) Hilderbrand, Royce Hilderbrand and John Austin Hilderbrand; great-grandchildren, Cora Barnes, Mary Ann Barnes and a boy soon to be born in June to Jonas and his wife; and her feline friend, Annie. A private memorial service for Jane will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Franklin College, 101 Branigin Blvd., Franklin, IN, 46131 or https://franklincollege.edu/giving/how-to-give/.
