Laura Mize

Laura Mize, 86, of Della Road, passed away at 4:23 a.m. January 19, 2019, at Hickory Creek Nursing Home.Laura was born May 5, 1932, in Tennessee the daughter of Samuel P. and S. Myrtle Mathews Davis. She married Mike G. Mize October 1, 1949. They were the parents of four daughters: Brenda J. (Jim) Thayer, Teresa Western, Rita (John) Stewart and Cheryl (Larry) Boone.She attended the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ in Columbus. Laura’s life centered around her love for her family. She enjoyed flowers and rock gardens. Her yard was alive with beautiful color. She enjoyed quilting with her mother and sisters. Her love for cooking and baking earned her the name “The Fudge Lady.” Neighborhood kids as well as adults would come to her house for a piece of her peanut butter fudge. She also enjoyed fishing with her husband Mike. The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 25, 2019, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Streeval officiating. Calling will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Friday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.She is survived by her sister, Freda Brown of Columbus; and a brother-in-law, Pat (Becky) Mize of Georgia. Laura was blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, Melissa Jones (four children and Laura’s great-great-grandchild due in March), Deana Western (two children), Eric Love (one child), Cristy Western (three children), Sonia (Greg) Hill (four children), Michael (Patty) Western (six children and 13 great-great-grandchildren), Jody (Travis) Cooley, Jamie (Scott) Speigle (three children), Kayla (Justin) Farland (one child), Luke Lunsford, Tracy (Chris) Thayer (two children), Dylan Jessie, Elizabeth Bowers, Christian Woods, Gracie Black, Spencer Black, Karma Gahwiller, Will McIntosh, Alyssa McIntosh, Branden Boone, Chris Boone, Maura Montambo, Cidney Newland, Carly Western, Brett Hughes and Brandon Richardson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mike; and daughter, Brenda.






We will miss you
I love and miss you Grandma Mize. I have so many wonderful childhood memories of you, and I will remember you always. You were a great cook/baker, a gardener, a Christian woman, a wonderful wife to Grandpa Mize, a parent to you 4 daughters, a grandparent to your many grandchildren and great grandchildren. You are loved and will be missed by many. Love you!
