Wilbur E. "Gene" Brown

Wilbur E. “Gene” Brown, age 79, passed away at Our Hospice Of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility at 7:52 a.m. Thursday December 27, 2018 following a massive stroke. Gene was born in Cave City, Kentucky October 31, 1939, the son of James Logan Brown and Sally Mae (Bowles) Brown now deceased. Gene retired from Cosco after 18 years of service, Clark Lift of Indiana and owned and operated Gene’s Fork Lift Service for several years retiring in 2015.  He was of the Independent Fundamental Baptist Faith. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday January 2, 2019 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Lay officiating. Burial will follow in Garland Brook Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, Bartholomew County Humane Society, Columbus Animal Control or a charity of the donor’s choice. Gene is survived by his wife of 38 years, Darla D. (Jordan) Brown whom he married December 31, 1980; daughters, Susie (Robert) Osborne of Greenwood, Lucy Gibson and Jody Mosley, both of Columbus; grandchildren, Joe and Nick Osborne, Josh and Cathy Breeden and Carl Gibson; special dear friend, Lloyd Perkins of Columbus; several great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 2 sisters, son in law, Carl Reed Gibson and several half brothers and sisters.
