Ardith Darlene Smith, 79, of Columbus, passed away at 11:14 a.m. Friday, November 16, 2018 at Columbus Regional Hospital. She was born on December 26, 1938 to Elijah M. and Edna V. LaFary Smith. Ardith was born and raised in Morgantown, IN then resided in California from 1979 – 2000. Ardith enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, gardening and especially loved sunsets and traveling. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, November 23, 2018 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Rev. Guy Armstrong. Calling will be from noon until service time on Friday. Inurnment will take place at Garland Brook Cemetery Mausoleum at a later date. Memorial contribution may be made to Gnaw Bone Camp through the funeral home. Survivors include her sons, Stephen R. (Melanie) Zook of Columbus, John L. Zook of New Castle; daughters, Judith A. (Clarence) Dudley of Nineveh, Sandra K. Sasser of FL, Kimberly S. Zook of Columbus; daughter-in-law, Beverly Mena of Columbus; brother, Meredith E. Smith of Spencer; 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Ardith was preceded in death by her parents; brother Mancil T. Smith; sister, Theresa Bayles and one infant granddaughter.

Mom I just wanted to say how much the past 15 years growing closer to you meant to me. You gave me life and I was honored to be there to help you when you needed me. I will cherish our last moments together and miss you always. I know you have went home and have no more suffering or pain and this brings me unspeakable joy! But most of all… I love you.
