FUNERAL: 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Marc Vance officiating VISITATION: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service ENTOMBMENT: Garland Brook Cemetery Mausoleum with military honors by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. MEMORIAL DONATIONS: St. Paul Episcopal Church or Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Douglas John Muellenberg, 88, of Columbus, died at 5 a.m. on August 30, 2018, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. He was born October 11, 1929, in Redfield, South Dakota, to Frank A. and Magdalen Eschenbaum Muellenberg. He married Mary Alice Foist December 15, 1952, and she preceded him in death January 29, 2018. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from the gas company. Douglas was a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church and enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and polka, classic country and big band music. He loved I.U. basketball and was a sports fan in general. He is survived by his grandchildren, Karen (Casey) Matern of Columbus, Robin Owen of Columbus, J.J. (Lacey) Muellenberg of Yorktown, Indiana, and Angela (Mister) Beatty of Muncie; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Eva Mae McMillan and Eileen (Michael) Bennett. He was preceded in death by sons, Bruce Muellenberg and Brent Muellenberg; a daughter, Karen Muellenberg; brother, Clarence Muellenberg; and sisters, Dorothy Kalkman and Angela Dienslake.
