Carlos Edward Strasser

Carlos Edward Strasser, 89, of Columbus died August 19, 2018, at Brown County Health and Living Community. Carlos was born February 6th, 1929, in Louisville, to George J. and Martha Elizabeth ( Long ) Strasser. He Married Mary O. Olmsted in 1953. He served in both the Navy and the Army. He was a communications specialist, being stationed in Okinawa, Japan ( During the Korean War ). He attained the rank of Corporal.Carlos retired from Golden Casting after 37 years of service. During his childhood he lived with his mother in Newark, New Jersey, seeking to be closer to his father's family before returning to Kentucky and Indiana. While there, he served in the Bugle Corp and Boy Scouts and marched in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. He was a kind and generous father. He was very involved in all his children's activities, and always willing to offer a helping hand. In the late 1960's Carlos and a few neighbors decided there was a dire need for a rural fire department in this area ( Ogilville ). They began the process around 1968 and attained their Charter for Southwest Bartholomew County Rural Fire Department in 1970. He was confirmed into St. Peter Lutheran Church at Waymansville in 1963, where he remained active all of his life, serving on the church board in 1971. He loved all things outside and the country life. He loved his cars and all kinds of tractors. He loved family vacations and being with all his family and friends. He loved race cars, football and horses. He loved a good Colts game with Peyton Manning and watching Tony Stewart race. Survivors include his children, Danny Strasser ( Judy ) of Columbus, Carla Strasser of Columbus, and Cathy Tays of Columbus; and granddaughters, Samantha Jones of Brownstown, Jacqueline Strasser of Taylorsville and Devin Lynn Tays of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary O. Strasser; his parents; two sons, Mark Edward Strasser and Richard Kent Strasser; foster parents, Frank W. and Timmie Burris; foster brothers, Daniel Samuel Christiansen, Ervin ( Bill Burris ); and foster sister, Allene "Ruby" Pidemore.
