Brenda J. Thayer, 66, of Columbus, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at her home. Brenda was born March 17, 1952, in Columbus, the daughter of Mike and Laura Davis Mize.  Brenda enjoyed cooking and crafts, as well as spending time with her family, earning her the nickname of “the family aunt”. She had a special place in her heart for all the many children that passed in and out of her life throughout the years. Brenda always made sure they had a shelter of love and understanding available to them, regardless of what troubles they had in their lives. The family would like to express their love and appreciation to Brenda’s caregivers Cristy Western, Cidney Newland and Linda Foster. The funeral service will be at 5 p.m., Sunday June 24, 2018, at Jewell – Rittman Family Funeral Home with visitation from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the funeral home to assist with final expenses. Survivors include her mother, Laura Mize of Columbus; a daughter, Tracy N. Thayer of Columbus; sisters, Teresa Western of Columbus, Rita (John) Stewart of Hope and Cheryl Boone; Aunts, Freda Brown and Wanda Magene; Uncle, Pat Mize; grandchildren, Warren Matthew Pedigo and Layla Rayne Sinclair; nieces and nephews, Melissa Jones, Deana Western, Eric Love, Cristy Western, Sonia Hill, Michael Western, Jamie Speigle, Jody Cooley, Justin and Kayla Farland and Luke Lunsford, Dylan and Elizabeth, Christian and Will, Karma and Gracie, Spencer and Alyssa, Maura, Cidney, Carly, Kelsee, Tyler, Paytonn, Madyson, Bryce, Brett, Brandon, Ciara, Hayden, Amelia, Hudson, Emma, Lexie and Joey as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Mike Mize; as well as her grandparents, Sam and Myrtle Davis, Homer Clyde and Nora Abdon Mize and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
