It was “Hal’s Day” to enter heaven. Hal was born November 1, 1933 to Wesley and Thelma Fern (Ping) Pruitt. He married Kathryn Mae Ogle on June 1, 1955. Kathryn passed away June 22, 1980. They had two daughters, Carol and Kathy. On June 26, 1983 he married Mabel “Mabe” Duncan Burns. Hal was a 1952 Columbus High School graduate. He was employed for a brief time at Arvin, but worked most of his life building and remodeling homes, a skill he learned from his father. Hal loved his Lord, family, and his canine buddies Mandy and Gracie. He enjoyed beautiful flower gardens and creating outdoor Christmas light displays, for which he won multiple awards. He was a gifted storyteller and loved to make everyone around him laugh. Calling will be Tuesday January 30 from 4-8pm at Jewell Rittman Family Funeral Home. A celebration of Hal’s life will be held Wednesday January 31 at 10am, with a 9am calling preceding. Revered Doug Wallace will officiate. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery. Hal is survived by his wife Mabe; children Carol (Don) Pope and Kathy Crouch; grandchildren and great-grandchildren Laura Pope, Amie (Joshua) Hatton, Bridget (Cory) Diedrich, Cailyn and Colson Diedrich, Daniel Dailey, and Trinity Dailey; stepdaughters Cindy (Kevin) Hotz, Luann (Joe) Matlock; step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren Jason Matlock (Jenel Bolin), Jordan, Jayden, and Jessa Matlock, Jennifer (Bryan) Johnson, Levi and Madisyn Johnson; brothers Ronnie (Carolyn) Pruitt, and Scott (Yvonne) Pruitt and sister Beulah (J. Keith) Thompson; and sister-in-law Wanda Gill. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Catherine Smith, Eva Wallace, and Mary Louise Hardin, and brothers Floyd and Jerry Pruitt. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice or Gideon Bibles.
