Commer "Bud" Thompson

Commer A. “Bud” Thompson, 80, of Columbus, passed away at 2:50 a.m. Saturday, December 16, 2017, at Homeview Health & Rehabilitation Center in Franklin, IN. Bud was born to William W. and Annie Phillips Thompson on September 15, 1937, in Colbert County, AL. He married Marilyn Froedge on December 22, 1961. Bud graduated from Columbus High School in 1957. He was previously employed by Robertson Chevrolet for 17 years and then retired after 23 years from Webb’s Auto Center. He was a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where he served joyfully for 45 years as a deacon and adult Sunday school teacher. Bud was well respected and known by ministers for his knowledge of the Bible. He loved and spoiled his three granddaughters. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with his Pastor Jonathon Elliott and Elder Donald Watts officiating. Calling will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will be at Hawcreek Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Friendship Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; son, Pastor Stephen G. Thompson of Washington, IL; daughter, Cheryl A. (Mark) Coomer of Columbus, IN; brothers, Loyd (Dianne) Thompson of Phil Campbell, AL and Elder John (Bernese) Thompson of Taylorsville, IN; sister, Dorothy (Robert) Davis of Phil Campbell, AL; grandchildren, Hannah Coomer, Kaitlyn Coomer and Rachel Coomer. Bud was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Clarissa Faith Thompson-Bragg

Lisa and I extend our deepest sympathies to Sis. Marilyn, Bro. Steve, Sis. Cheryl, Bro. John and all the rest of the family, as well as to the good folks of Friendship MBC in the loss of this dear brother. He was a good friend, and a faithful servant of the Lord and His church so he will be sorely missed until we are reunited. Our love and prayers are with you!
