George V. Hilderbrand

George V. Hilderbrand, 96, formerly of rural Hope, died on December 9, 2017, at Silver Oaks Health Campus in Columbus. George was born October 8, 1921, in Palestine, Illinois, the son of Arthur A. and Nannie R. Hilderbrand. He married Martha L. Glassco May 16, 1942. Martha preceded George in death November 26, 2013. He was proud to have been a World War II Army veteran. For many years he farmed the Armuth property and drove a school bus for Sandcreek Township. After that, George was employed by the Golden Foundry. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 14, 2017, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Father Ryan Hilderbrand officiating. Calling will be from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery with military honors presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer's Foundation of America. Survivors include his six children, Vernon (Lori) Hilderbrand of California, Jerry (Sharon) Hilderbrand of South Carolina, Mary (Jim) Frazier of Michigan, Patricia (Dale) Puckett of Florida, Judy (Alex) Baker of Florida and Teresa (Jeff) Hensley of Columbus; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Martha; six brothers; and one sister.
