Coon, 77, of Pearl Street, died surrounded by his family at 8:27 a.m. August 27, 2017, at his home. Gary was born November 12, 1939, one of a set of triplets, in Sedalia, Missouri, the son of Elmer and Nellie Stuckey Coon. He married Linda K. Zeigler December 25, 1957. Gary spent many years in law enforcement, having served with the Columbus Police Department. He also worked for the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, the Indiana Department of Corrections and at Atterbury under the Department of Defense. Gary owned and operated his own business for many years. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards. Gary was devoted to his family, as well as his extended family. Survivors include his wife, Linda; sons, Charles Coon and Scot (Lilly) Coon, both of Columbus; a daughter, Amy (Ed) Boston of Columbus; brother, Larry Coon of Columbus; sister, Maxine Harden of Columbus; eight grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry Coon; sister, Willa Mae Everroad; and a great-grandson, Xavier Garay.
