Charlotte (Chottie) Louanne Clapp

MEMORIAL SERVICE:  3:30 p.m. on August 5, 2017, at Fairlawn Presbyterian Church, 2611 Fairlawn Drive, Columbus, INIn lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund or Fairlawn PreschoolCharlotte (Chottie) Louanne Miller Clapp, 84, of Columbus, died at 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26 at her home.   A memorial service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. on August 5, 2017, at Fairlawn Presbyterian Church, 2611 Fairlawn Drive, Columbus, IN. Chottie was born on August 31, 1932 in Elkhart, IN to David J. and Helen M. Miller. On July 26, 1952 she married E. Wray Clapp, who preceded her in death on December 3, 2009. From an early age, Chottie knew her passion was for working with young children, and she attended Hanover College where she studied education. Chottie was widely known as a "kid magnet" who never met a child who didn't immediately love her. She taught as a preschool teacher and served as a policy committee member at Fairlawn Preschool for more than 30 years. She was a devoted member of Fairlawn Presbyterian Church, where she served as a member of the choir, elder, deacon, Sunday school teacher, and youth leader. Chottie was also a long-time volunteer with the Book Buddies program at Richards Elementary School. Chottie was a loving mother who adored her children and grandchildren. Chottie was preceded in death by son, Eric Wray Clapp. She is survived by her children, Candace Clapp Herzog and her husband Joseph of Frederick, MD, Christopher David Clapp and his wife Ellen of Indianapolis, IN, and Charlotte (Crickett) Clapp Kughen and her husband Rick of Kokomo, IN. Chottie is also survived by five grandchildren, Samuel Wray and William Somers Clapp of Chicago, IL, Alexa Claire Herzog of Queens, NY, and Alexa Marie and Eric Wesley Kughen of Kokomo, IN. Chottie will be fondly remembered by her family for her enormous capacity for loving and caring for children, her sweet and cheerful disposition, and her love of ice cream. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund or Fairlawn Preschool.
