SERVICES:MEMORIAL MASS: Will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2017, at Saint Bartholomew Catholic Church, Columbus, Indiana, with Father Andy Syberg officiating. Immediately following the service, he will be laid to rest next to Jerri in Garland Brook Mausoleum. VISITATION: A time of gathering will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana, the Columbus Fellowship Club or the Heritage Fund of Bartholomew County/Peter Ster through the funeral home.Peter Ster, 92, of Columbus, Indiana, died May 15, 2017, at Keepsake Village in Columbus, with his family by his side. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Anne Geraldine "Jerri" Gleason Ster; and an infant daughter, Margaret, who died shortly after birth in Scotland. Pete is survived by his sons, Dan (Jan) Ster of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Thomas (Brenda) Ster of Chandler, Arizona; a daughter, Carolyn (Bob) Massengale of Columbus; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, John Ster of Jacksonville, Florida; and a sister, Janet Kegler of Richmond, Virginia. Pete was born Dec. 28, 1924, in Lenox, Massachusetts, to Peter M. and Jeanne Marie Ny Ster. Pete joined the U.S. Navy following graduation from Lenox High School in 1942. Pete participated in the D-Day Normandy invasion, serving as an engineer on one of the Navy's shore landing ships. He returned to Lenox following his honorable discharge in 1946 and married Jerri that year. He graduated in 1950 from Indiana Technical Institute in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and was immediately hired by Cummins Engine Company in Columbus. Pete had a long and respected career at Cummins working in Columbus, Indiana, as well as Canada, Scotland, Switzerland and England. He retired from Cummins in 2000, served as a consultant for Cummins in China, then fully retired in 2003. He moved from Columbus to Tucson, Arizona, in 2004 and then returned to Columbus in 2012 when his health began to fail. Pete was longtime member of Saint Bartholomew Catholic Church. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Good Guys Group and always looked forward to their annual trip to Georgia.
