Michael P. Jackson, 73, of South County Road 100W, passed away at 4:40 p.m. Sunday, August 21, 2016, at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation, after a brief illness with vascular dementia. Michael was born July 15, 1943, in Crab Orchard, Kentucky, the son of Odessa F. and Ella Mae Frazier Jackson. He was the second child of five boys. Mike graduated from Salem High School in 1961. He served in the National Guard, doing his basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He was discharged March 1, 1970, with the rank of Sergeant E5 Detachment One Company C First Battalion (M) 151st Infantry. He joined Cummins Engine Company in 1965 and became a HVAC journeyman May 29, 1980. Mike met his wife, Connie L. Traylor, shortly after that and they were married February 20, 1982. Mike loved to play golf at Timbergate and work in his garden, along with listening to "oldies and goodies" music. Survivors include his wife, Connie; daughters, Christie Jackson of Hope and Julie Jackson of Columbus; brothers, Curt Jackson, Thomas (Diane) Jackson and Walter (Cathy) Jackson, all of Columbus; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lonnie Jackson.

Other than being his sister-in-law during the years I was married to his brother, Mike wills always be special to me for the boost of confidence he gave to me in 1978 After becoming a newly licensed real estate licensee, Mike asked me to help him find a house to buy. Together with a contractor, we found Mike a home to buy. I have never forgotten the confidence the sale of Mike’s home gave me which was the beginning of my real estate career. Grace and peace to his family.
