Mauzy, 84 of Columbus, IN, died at 3:27pm Sunday June 19th, 2016, at Columbus Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Verl was born October 19, 1931 in Rushville, IN, the son of the late Clifford W. Mauzy and Beulah B. Ellison Mauzy. He married Marilyn J. Gilson Mauzy March 14, 1952. Verl graduated in 1949 from Rushville High School. He graduated in 1953 from Purdue University with a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering. After graduation he served two years on active duty as a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force assigned to the Strategic Air Command. Verl came to Columbus in 1961 to begin employment as a sales engineer with Daniel-Hayden Electric Company. He retired as president and owner of the company in 2014. He was highly regarded for his unique engineering and technical skills. One of his favorite projects was collaboration with the Swiss artist, Jean Tinguely, who created the kinetic sculpture “Chaos I” which is the centerpiece of The Columbus Commons. Verl had varied interests including restoring antique autos and tractors, fishing, snowmobiling and traveling. Verl, a faithful member of First Christian Church, served the church for over a half century in many different capacities. His other affiliations included membership in Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, The Dodge Brothers Club and The Antique Automobile Club of America – White River Valley Region. Verl, is survived by his wife, children, Lawrence (Cora) Mauzy of Columbus, Craig (Marie) Mauzy of Athens, Greece and Claire King of Milwaukee, WI, brother, Warren (Shirley) Mauzy of Florham Park, New Jersey and grandchildren, Matthew Mauzy, Joshua Mauzy, Grace Mauzy,Carl Mauzy, Aaron King, Joel King and Paul King.
