Theresa Bayles

Theresa M. Bayles, 79, of Elizabethtown, died at 12:05 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Theresa was born Nov. 18, 1936, in Morgantown, the daughter of Elijah and Edna V. LaFary Smith. She married Julius F. Bayles Feb. 21, 1954. Theresa received her bachelor’s degree from Franklin College and a master’s degree from Indiana University. She taught at Schmitt and Richards Elementary schools before retiring from Parkside Elementary School. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints and a member of the Kappa Kappa Sigma sorority. Theresa was involved with the Boy Scouts, volunteering as a mentor to the scouts, including her four grandsons. Theresa loved flowers, interior decorating and traveling. Survivors include her husband, Julius; son, Frank J. (Sandy) Bayles of Elizabethtown; daughters, Beth A. (Brian) Richardson and Stephany J. Bayles Baker both of Columbus; a brother, Meredith Smith; sister, Ardith D. Smith of Columbus; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Mancil Smith.
