FUNERAL: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Scott Gentry officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard. VISITATION: 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. MEMORIAL DONATIONS: Disabled American Veterans through the funeral home. John L. Woods, 65, of Taylor Road, died Thursday, June 4, 2015, at his home. John was born January 7, 1950 in Franklin, the son of Clarence and Christine Goodin Woods. He married Judy Brock February 5, 1971. John served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1968 to 1972. During his enlistment, he served in the Vietnam conflict. He was a security guard for Cummins Engine Company for many years before retiring in 2012. John was a Colts football fan and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. John loved his family and will be dearly missed. Survivors include his wife, Judy; daughters, Kimberly Copeland and Michelle Woods, both of Columbus; sisters, Belva (Kenneth) Turner of Norman, IN, Rita Beatty of Shelbyville, KY and Gidget Scott Ramos of Columbus; grandchildren, John P. (Emily Patrick) Woods and Tanis G. Copeland; great grandchildren, Azaylia "ZayZay" Copeland, Albion "Alicat" Copeland and Jack Thomas "Pootie" Woods; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Woods; his mother and step-father, Christine and Oakley Scott; and a sister, Lawanda Gentry.
