Mize, 74, of Brownstown, died at 3:50 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2015, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour. Survivors include his wife, Carol S. Carr Mize; sons, Jessie H. (Sharon) Mize of Seymour, Robert Gene Dewitt of Columbus, Harold J. (Roxanne) DeWitt of North Vernon and Thomas Kelly (Pat) Allen of Columbus; daughters, Elizabeth A. (Curtis) Smith of Hope, Dawn F. Hunter of Brown County, Shawn M. (Jody) Johnson of Columbus and Tammy L. (Jamie) Thixton of Columbus; a brother, Pat (Becky) Mize of Georgia; a sister, Wanda Mejean of Seymour; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Fern Mize; first and second wives, Nellie M. (Hawkins) Mize and Joy R. Gearhart; a son, Wallace E. Mize; and a daughter, Sherry L. Roberts; brothers, Mike and Kenneth Mize; sisters, Sharon Mize, Daisey Mobley and Bonnie Cross. Memorial contributions may be made to Freetown Pentecostal Church.






We have been very blessed to have such a wonderful dad we call Popa Gary.. This man and his sons came into our lives 37 years ago.. Our lives forever changed in a way no words can describe.. Our Families endured a Huge loss when we lost our Mother and now our Dad is even harder.. The memories will forever be a part of our lives and the Family as we continue to grow.. Our Pops took on a huge responsibility when he took on our Mom and 8 kids and lotsa grandkids great grand kids great great grandkids and all the kids we brought home! He loved us all dearly and equally! He is in a better place! No more pain and suffering! We will all miss him! He was and wil be the best daddy I ever had! Love you Pop/Gary Mize
I loved Uncle Gary,he was so fun and funny to be around. He could really tell you some stories. He made life very interesting. He will be greatly missed. He always told me he was going to come to my house, and climb the swimming pool ladder to get on the horses and ride. I would have loved to see that. My husband and girls loved him very much also. We will greatly miss him. Love you Uncle Gary!!
