Pleasant Christian Union Church Carl N. "Carty" Coleman, 88, of Sumpter Trail, died at 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 20, 2015, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Carl was born August 14, 1926 in Columbus, the son of Herschel A. and Mayme A. Thornton Coleman. He married Betty J. Coleman August 30, 1980. Carl was a member of Mt. Pleasant Christian Union Church. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1944. Shortly after graduating, Carl enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving as a Signalman aboard the U.S.S. Cavallaro. He was previously employed at Engelking Patterns, and retired from Chrysler Corp. in 1997. Carl enjoyed playing and watching golf, watching basketball, especially the Indiana Pacers, as well as attending family gatherings. Survivors include his daughter Colleen A. Coleman of Columbus; stepchildren Roger E. Coleman, Janice J. (Dave) Fisher both of Columbus, and their families Ryan (Tara) Fisher, Gavin (Amanda) Fisher, Reagan, Lennon, Britain, Kennedy, and Carolina; nieces and nephews Jane (Dave) Sutton, Jim (Nora) Coleman, John (Lynn) Coleman, Jill (Randy) Scheidt and their families. He was preceded in death by his spouse Betty J. Coleman on August 6, 2013; parents Herschel & Mayme A. Thornton Coleman; brothers Melvin and Gene Coleman.

  1. I worked with Carl at Englking Pattern in the 1960s. He knew and worked with my father in the 1950s and always remember him to we when we met. A kwind Gentleman. My prayers are with his family and friends.

  4. I’ll always remember growing up on Pennsylvania Street with Carty and Colleen as our “across the street neighbors.” Such a sweet, kind man.
