Hammel, 91, of Anderson, IN passed away at 3:25 a.m. Friday February 6, 2015 in Manor Care Nursing Home. She was born August 23, 1923 in Corydon, IN to the late Hershel and Glennie (Wolfe) Toler. She was employed at Reliance Electric and then owned and operated Verde's Shoe Store. She had lived most her life in Columbus, IN. She married Lester Hammel January 1, 1948 and he preceded her in death on May 12, 2005. She was a member of Brown's Corner Chapel Church. Verdess is survived by her sons, Philip (Deborah) Hammel of Anderson and Rev. Mark (Karen) Hammel of North Vernon; a sister Wanda Toler Reynolds of Corydon; grandchildren, Nicole Hammel, Anna Kruger and Sarah Goldman; great grandchildren, Bailey Kirts, Reeve Jarrell, Bonita Goldman, Jude Goldman and Lester Gray Goldman. Verdess was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother Carmen Toler and a grandson, Jeremy Hammel.
