"Dee" Cardinal of Columbus died peacefully at 10:23 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, at Brown County Health and Living in Nashville, Indiana. Born January 20, 1937, in Dayton, Ohio, Dee was the daughter of Charles and Mary Pense Harding. The family moved to Dupont, Indiana, in about 1946. She graduated from Dupont High School and married her childhood sweetheart, Dwight Cardinal, on December 16, 1954. The couple soon moved to Columbus where Dee took a job at Bakalar Air Force Base and later supported Dwight in their business, Cardinal Realty. Delores was a kind woman and generous to a fault. She felt compelled to help all others who were less fortunate both in and outside her family. In keeping with that, she was an active member of the philanthropic fraternity Beta Sigma Phi for 58 years, serving in all officer positions. She loved shopping for and wearing beautiful clothes and jewelry and above all adored her family, friends and precious schnauzer, Heidi. Dee was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Dwight, and their son, Rick; her sister, Jacquelin Harding; and another sister, Carol Sue, who died in infancy. Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca Sue Keane of Columbus; a grandson, Joshua Keane of Memphis, Tennessee; granddaughters, Brittini Keane of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Christina Zamora of Dallas, Texas; a brother, John Harding of Tacoma, Washington; five great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Louis Cardinal of Columbus. Services for Dee will be Friday, August 8, at 11:00 a.m. at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home on 25th Street in Columbus, with Pastor Chuck Coleman officiating. Calling will be from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at Dupont Cemetery in Dupont, Indiana.
