Virgil Matlock FINAL RESTING PLACE: Spraytown Cemetery VISITATION: 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS: Indiana School for the Deaf Leland Hauck Brown, 72, of Columbus, Indiana, died at 4:45 p.m. Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Franklin Meadows Nursing Home. Leland was born August 24, 1941 in Columbus, the son of Robert Singer and Christina Hauck Brown. Leland was a 1961 graduate of the Indiana School for the Deaf where he was on the wrestling and football teams. He was employed by Cummins Engine Company, retiring after 41 years of service. He loved watching sports, NASCAR and reading National Geographic Magazines. Leland loved kids, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his son, Tony (Stacey) Brown of Edinburgh; a daughter, Andrea Ann (Matt) Brown-Thompson of Buda, Texas; grandchildren, Zara Thompson, Zami Thompson and Damian Brown; siblings, Jacque Coffey of Columbus, Phyllis (Don) Ashby, Nancy (Nute) Lukins and Susan (Mike) Dunn all of Jeffersonville, Steve (Valerie) Brown and Mike (Lynn) Brown of Louisville and Greg Brown of New Albany; along with 29 nieces and nephews, 29 great-nieces and nephews and 5 great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
