Steve Russell FINAL RESTING PLACE: Garland Brook Cemetery VISITATION: 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS: Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Evelyn Eldora Kendall Coles, 89, of Parkside Court, formerly of Two Worlds Drive, died at 2 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Evelyn moved in 1933 from Bloomington to Columbus where she first attended Wagner, then Mount Pleasant schools until the eighth grade. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1943. After high school she went to work at Cummins Engine Company where she met the love of her life, William G. Coles. She later was employed at Fodrea Elementary School. As a child growing up, Evelyn was very involved in 4-H and was the Indiana Grand Champion for darning a sock. She was president of her Home Economics club and was very devoted to her church. She first attended Wertz Memorial Evangelical United Brethren Church, which became Sandy Hook United Methodist Church. Evelyn was a devoted Christian lady who always had a Bible by her side. She enjoyed traveling, camping, bowling, golfing and "aquacise" classes. She also loved to sing and was a member of the Silver Tones. Evelyn was a devoted mother to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Born in Bloomington Feb. 21, 1925, Evelyn was the daughter of Horton M. Kendall and Dorothy L. Fowler Kendall. She married William G. Coles March 31, 1946. Survivors include three sons, James A. (Barbara) Coles of Carmel, IN, Jerry L. (Melanie) Coles of Fort Myers, FL, and Jon K. (Lora) Coles of Columbus, IN; two sisters, Virginia A. Kendall and Betty Jean Williams, both of Columbus, IN; grandchildren, Kathleen C. Sorrells, James A. Coles Jr., Brian L. Coles, Matthew L. Coles, Meghan L. Coles, Mackenzie E. Coles, Delaney G. Coles, and Darby R. Coles; great-grandchildren, Susanna, Jack, Grace, Caroline, Sara and Michael Sorrells, Jimmy, Marie and Emelia Coles, William Coles, Oliver Coles, and one more expected within the month; and 13 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a brother, Robert A. Kendall.
