Hawkins, 79, of Chapa Drive, died at 4 p.m. Friday, March 7, 2014 at Silver Oaks Health Campus. She was born in Black Mountain, North Carolina, September 9, 1934, the daughter of the late Ernest E. and Bathilda Banks Jones. She married Joseph C. Hawkins Jr. on August 16, 1953, and he preceded her in death on December 4, 2003. Clara had lived in Columbus since 1970. She and her husband Joseph, a former pastor, ministered at several churches with the last being Bethel Baptist Church. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and had been a book keeper for several businesses, including her son's. She was an avid seamstress who loved to crochet and knit. She was a great cook and an avid gardener who loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her sons, Ron (Roxanne) Hawkins and David (Tomala) Hawkins, all of Columbus; daughters, Regena Baldwin of Columbus and Charlene (Mark) Stevens of Franklin; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; and her good friend and companion, Omer Cord of Shelbyville. Clara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph; a sister, Sarah Elizabeth Jones; a son-in-law, Reese Baldwin; and grandchildren, Nikolas Hawkins and Nathaniel David Hawkins.
