FUNERAL: 10 a.m. Monday, November 11, 2013 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Tingle and Pastor Cheri Grizzard officiating. VISITATION: 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, November 10, 2013 and from 9 a.m. until service time Monday. ENTOMBMENT: Garland Brook Cemetery Mausoleum. MEMORIALS: Memorials may be made to Memorial Baptist Church. Violet M. Powell, 90, of Indiana Avenue, died at 9:10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Violet and her husband Walter founded Columbus Linoleum Store in 1949. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church where she was financial secretary for many years. She loved to read, watch basketball and travel. Violet especially loved her church, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her sister Norma. She was born Aug. 17, 1923 in Monroe County, the daughter of Raymond J. and Edna Crum Oliver. She married Walter Loester Powell Oct. 2, 1943. He preceded her in death Sept. 17, 2010. Surviving are sons, Michael (Joan) Powell of Columbus and James (Beth) Powell of North Carolina; a daughter, Bonita (John) Hall of Columbus; sisters, Norma (Don) Lienhoop and Betty (Louis) Cardinal, both of Columbus; grandchildren, Chris (Kari) Powell, Matt (Holly) Powell, Troy Hall and Jason (Kendra) Powell; a step-grandaughter, Melissa Jacquess; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond J. and Edna Crum Oliver; her husband, Walter Loester Powell; and sisters, Lucille Phillips, Mamie Taylor and Mary Seeley.
