Doug Bauman FINAL RESTING PLACE: St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery Clifty VISITATION: 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service at the church Memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Church's Making Mission Possible fund, in lieu of flowers, are appreciated. Harold M. Schroer, 89, of South County Road 400E, died at 5:15 a.m. Monday, September 23, 2013, at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg after a brief illness. Harold was a lifelong resident of Bartholomew County where he farmed until retiring in 1989. During his career, he also served as Clay Township Trustee from 1960 to 1968 and retired from Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation's Transportation Department after serving 20 years as a school bus driver. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church at Clifty where he served in many capacities on the board and with the youth program. He also served on numerous boards and causes including as a member of Bartholomew County REMC Board of Directors, Bartholomew County Drainage Board, Farm Bureau and others. Harold was a faithful member of the church, an avid reader and enjoyed woodworking and restoring the family's home place east of Columbus. Born July 24, 1924, Harold was the eldest son of Elmer and Emily (Scheidt) Schroer. He married Isabelle Harden July 29, 1945. Survivors include his two sons, Jeff (Claudette) Schroer of Columbus and Dan (Taffy) Schroer of Greenville, S.C. He is also survived by his four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Jason (Laurie) Schroer of Columbus and their sons, Joshua and Jesse; Zachary (Corina) Schroer of Greenwood, IN, and their daughters, Sophia and Ava; Ryan Schroer of Columbus; and Clinton Schroer of Denver, CO. Harold was preceded in death by his wife Isabelle; his parents, Elmer and Emily; and brothers, Reverend Kenneth Schroer and Dean Schroer.

  1. Jeff and Claudette and all of the family. I am so sorry for the loss of your father. We all know how difficult it can be. I know Harold probably you viewed you as a daughter and the loss is huge for you, also. I wish you peace and comfort in your time of mourning, which come in waves and times you won’t be expecting to be reminded of your Dad your heart will be touched, once again, with thoughts of him.
