SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 25th at Jewell-Rittman Funeral Home. OFFICIANT: Rev. Terry Branum. FINAL RESTING PLACE: Garland Brook Cemetery. VISITATION: 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service Monday. MEMORIALS: Our Hospice of South Central Indiana. Jessie M. Day, 72, of Della Road, died at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, February, 20, 2013, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Jessie retired from her teacher's assistant position at Fodrea Elementary School and the former State Street Elementary School. She was also a member of the Swing and Swayers square dance club. She and her family spent many summers traveling through the United States. Camping was a hobby she had done with her family and friends for many years. She was a member of the National Campers and Hikers Association in the Weekend Warriors and the Nite Owl chapters. Of all her life travels, her family was her life. She was a kind, giving, loving and selfless wife, mother, grandmother and friend to everyone. Most important to her was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Born in Dupont, Indiana, October 3, 1940, Jessie was the daughter of James H. Hardesty and Malta Sandlin Hardesty. She married Gerald F. "Jake" Day August 25, 1956. Survivors include her husband, Gerald F. "Jake" Day of Columbus; a son, Kevin (Rhonda) Day of Columbus; daughters, Lora Day Drummond of Seymour and Kimberly (Kevin) Baird of Elizabethtown; brothers, Norman Hardesty, Mike (Velva) Hardesty, Joe Hardesty, Don (Janie) Hardesty, and Glen (Bonnie) Hardesty; grandchildren, Devin (Kaity) Day, Korbin Baird, Kendall Baird, Kiersten Baird, and Savannah Drummond; great-grandchildren, Mecailah Gilley, Lilliahna Judd, Taylor Sanders, Tucker Day, and Logan Sanders. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Eugene Sandlin, John Hardesty, and Rick Hardesty; and a grandchild, Jarrod Judd.






I am so saddened to read of Jessie’s passing. I worked with her for many years at Fodrea. We all enjoyed sharing family stories, and Jessie had great ones. My sympathy is with all of you.

Heaven has received a very special angel! Mrs. Day was a shinning light to anyone she came into contact with. Her loving, generous & sincere personality was extra special.
