Frank Lee Jewell, 89, went to be with the Lord on August 18, 2012 after a brief stay at the Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Mr. Jewell, a lifelong Columbus resident, was born on October 18, 1922, and was the ninth of 10 children. He was a proud member of the 1938 Rockcreek champion basketball team and attended Columbus High School until enlisting to serve in World War II. He joined the U.S. Navy and served honorably from 1942 to 1944 in the North African Campaign. He married Ruth (Christian) Jewell on February 16, 1943. The two shared a love for traveling and visited 48 states and all providences in Canada. Mr. Jewell was self-employed and worked as a carpenter and building contractor. A nature enthusiast, he enjoyed cutting wood and spending time outdoors, raising cows, sheep, rabbits, chickens and peacocks on his farm. Mr. Jewell read the newspaper every day from cover to cover and read his Bible faithfully. He attended Bible Holiness Church in Seymour for more than 30 years. As a child during the Great Depression, Mr. Jewell experienced many of the hardships life can bring and during his adult life, was committed to giving to those in need, including many cancer organizations, disaster relief efforts and a number of Christian missionaries and mission groups. The last of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by his parents, William Garnet and Della (Patterson) Jewell and nine brothers and sisters, Ira Jewell, Arthur Jewell, Roscoe Jewell, Paul Jewell, Carl Jewell, Mary Luther, Ruth King, Viola Weekly and Betty Gray. 1. Great-Uncle Frank will definitely be missed! I am sorry that we could not come up for the family reunion this year. It was always a treat to hear him reminisce about the olden days.

  2. So sorry to hear of Uncle Franks passing. I had heard yesterday that he wasn’t doing well at all and then was thinking this morning that he will have a lot of brothers and sisters to welcome him home, so this should be a happy time for him.
