Bernard P. Hunter, 91, of Taylor Road, died at 5:34 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Bernard was born on July 20, 1920 to Oren and Beatrice Hunter in Kokomo, Indiana. He married Anna May Selmeyer in 1945. After serving in the navy from 1941 to 1945, they were blessed with two children, a daughter Joyce (Jim) Wilkerson of 3217 McCullough Lane, Columbus, IN 47203; a son, Eric (Kathleen) Hunter; two grandsons, Ben and Matt Hunter; a granddaughter Pam Nolan; and two great grand-daughters, Pazlee Hunter and Payton Rice; and a brother, Don Hunter. Anna May passed in 1960. Six years later, he married Gladys Lucy Hines. She passed away April 30, 2006. Bernard sold insurance with Indianapolis Life Insurance and worked for Everroad Brothers Auto before starting his career with Breeden Realtors/Developers in 1957. Over the years, his job evolved to part ownership and executive Vice President of Breeden Realtors/Developers. He was co-responsible for management in acquiring, planning, developing and sales of many parcels of land for housing. During this time, he also acquired many parcels of land for commerce and industries. Bernard retired in 1984, after 27 years of association with Breeden Realtors/Developers. He was living at Four Seasons Retirement Center. Mr. Hunter was active and held office in other corporations formed to accommodate various ownership/interest including; Jolinda Development Corporation, Parkside Development Corporation, Jackson Park Convalescent Center, Home Equities Incorporated and Clifty Farms. He was Vice President of "Indusites", a group of local leaders, who with the help of the Chamber of Commerce, worked to acquire and develop a large site to bring new industries to Columbus. He was a member and past president of Columbus Utility Board. He was also the past president of Columbus Board of Realtors. Mr. Hunter is also a life-time member of the Elks Lodge. Bernard was very skilled and loved woodworking. He maintained a fully equipped woodworking shop. SERVICES: A private graveside service will be held at a later date with military rites by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard at Garland Brook Cemetery with Pastor Ann Marshall officiating.
