Claire M. Settle, 81, of Taylor Road, died at 4:15 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2012 at Four Seasons Health Center. She was born May 25, 1930 in Jennings County, the daughter of Cecil and Crystal Pierce Smith. Claire married James C. Settle June 28, 1958, and he survives. Claire was a member of Newbern United Methodist Church. She loved spending time in her vegetable garden, as well as doing cross-word puzzles in the evenings. Claire had served two terms on the Clifty Township Advisory Board and was a 50-year member of Order of the Eastern Star, Hartsville Chapter #550. She was employed in data processing at Cummins Engine Company, retiring in 1989. She is survived by sisters, Carol Fortner of Carmel and Anne Smith of Columbus. Claire was preceded in death by a son, Troy L. Settle; her parents; and a sister, Faye Bird. FUNERAL: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Connie Barr and Chaplain Phyllis Hawkins officiating. VISITATION: 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2012 and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. BURIAL: Garland Brook Cemetery. MEMORIAL DONATIONS: Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana or Newbern United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
