Thomas "Tom" Stowell died Friday, March 30, 2012, after a courageous battle with post polio syndrome. Tom married Jean (Bingham) Stowell on December 19, 1952 in Scottsburg. Tom leaves behind his wife; children, David Thomas (Elaine) Stowell, of California, and Jon Kenneth (Heather) Stowell, of Carmel; and seven grandchildren, Erin E. Stowell, Amanda L. Stowell, Jillian K. Stowell, and Natalie J. Stowell, all of California, Mia K. Stowell and Evan Thomas Stowell, both of Carmel, and Emily M. Stowell, of Bloomington. Also surviving is one sister, Marge McBride of Indianapolis. Tom was born in Little York, Indiana November 3, 1932 to Glen Stowell and Ione Haggin Stowell. He was raised by his uncle and aunt, Lawrence and Zana Carlile of Little York. He retired from Columbus Regional Hospital January 30, 1998 after 20 years as purchasing manager. He was a charter member of Chapel of the Good Shepherd Church and later was a member and deacon of Shiloh Baptist Church on State Road 9. Currently he was a member of Calvary Fellowship Church of the Nazarene on Rocky Ford Road. Tom had formerly served on the advisory board of the Salvation Army, was a member of Gideon's International and worked with the Macedonian Ministry. He graduated from Salem High School, where he played varsity basketball. Tom was an avid reader and golfer. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, foster parents and a sister, Lois Schultz. FUNERAL: 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, with Pastor Shane Rocker officiating. VISITATION: 4 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2012 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. BURIAL: Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery. MEMORIALS: The family request that memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana.
