Larry W. Williams, 71, of Carriage Drive, died at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 22, 2012 in Arizona after a short illness. He was born in Greensburg, October 12, 1940, the son of the late Herman Edgar Williams and Fern Della Wheldon Williams. He married Joan Garrett on June 6, 1959, and she survives. Larry was a long-time resident of Columbus, moving from Greensburg in 1970. He was a member of Garden City Church of Christ, and was employed by Cummins Engine Company, retiring in 1998 after 39 years of service. Larry was a member of the 1986-87 Leadership Bartholomew County, and loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren. Larry is also survived by a son, Tony (Corrina) Williams of Columbus; daughters, Lana (Steve) Wood of Columbus and Amy (John) York of Columbus; grandchildren, David Wood, Jason Wood, Alicia Williams and Sean Matney, all of Columbus; a brother, Don (Wanda) Williams of Brady, Texas; and a sister, Clara (Chris) Baker of Columbus. He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Edgar Williams; his mother, Fern Della Wheldon Williams Dietz; and a sister, Phyllis Walterman. SERVICES: VISITATION: Will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. FUNERAL: Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Virgil Clotfelter officiating. BURIAL: Will be at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS: May be made to the American Cancer Society.
