George E. Young passed away Nov. 29, 2011, at Willow Crossing Health Facility in Columbus, IN. He was born in Columbus, IN, on Jan. 16, 1932, to Edna (Carmer) and Albert Canfield. His mother later married Rev. Oren Young and George and his siblings were adopted by Rev. Young. He served in both the Air Force and the Navy in the mid- 1950s and was the recipient of the Korean Service Medal and the UN Service Medal. George was also a member of The Columbus Lions Club, serving many years doing charitable works in the community. He is survived by sons, James (Kim), Lee, Brian and Paul; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends, Susan Fox and Robert Gergely. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. and Mrs. Young; a son, Darrel Allen; his first wife, Mary Niccum; and his second wife, Betty Locke. PROCESSION: 2:30 p.m. Dec. 10 at Jewell Rittman Funeral Home, 3855 25th Street, Columbus, IN. GRAVESIDE SERVICE: military rites conducted by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard, will be held Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at Springer Cemetery at 3 p.m. with Rev. Barbara Hill officiating. MEMORIALS: Memorials to Hospice of Bartholomew County, the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association would be appreciated

Hey, Sugar Bump, you have made the last 15 months of my life so very enjoyable. I can only hope I brought you at least half of the joy you brought me. You will be missed, and will always have a place in my heart. Love you! Susan
