Elizabeth K. "Sukey" Nie died Friday, August 19, 2011. Sukey was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 20, 1945, to Dr. Joseph Kenney and Frances Kenney. She graduated from Shortridge High School and obtained a Bachelor of Arts from Butler University and a Masters of Education from Indiana University. Sukey was a member of First Presbyterian Church for over 25 years, where she served as an Elder and Deacon. She was a board member of the Aplastic Anemia & MDS International Foundation and was a member of the Treasure Hunters Antique Club, the Indianapolis Woman's Club, PEO, the Columbus Service League, Columbus Culture Club and Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Indianapolis, a former adjunct faculty member of Indiana University-Purdue University-Columbus, a former docent for the Indianapolis Museum of Art, an educator with Art Smart Columbus and a Certified Master Gardner. Aside from her civic involvement and professional achievements, Sukey was first and foremost a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, as well as a wonderful friend to many. Sukey was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, William Nie; children, David (Jennifer) Nie of Zionsville, Indiana and Sarah Nie of Asheville, North Carolina; and her siblings, Joseph (Christine) Kenney of Austin, Texas, Philip Kenney of Baltimore, Maryland, and Mary (Ty) Estlick of Edina, Minnesota. Sukey has two grandchildren, Jackson and Ella Nie, as well as 12 nieces and nephews and eight great-nieces and nephews. SERVICES: Family and friends will gather Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, Columbus, Indiana. A memorial service will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Columbus, Indiana.
