Patricia E. "Pat" Phelps, 54, passed away peacefully in her sleep with her family by her side at Hospice after a hard fought year-long battle with end-stage lung cancer at 5:07 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011. She was born in Richmond, June 18, 1957. She married Charles "Chuck" Phelps May 19, 1995. He survives. Patricia was a former department manager at Wal-Mart until she became disabled. She was also a wife, mother and homemaker. She is survived by sons, Jason (Stacy) Humphress of Toney, Alabama and Adam Phelps, at home; a daughter, April (Darin) Poe of Columbus; grandchildren, Hannah and Grace Arbuckle and Daniel and Drew Poe, all of Columbus, and Kathryn Humphress of Toney, Alabama; a brother, Glenn (Lesia) Mervin Jr. of California; a sister, Sandra (Max) Duke of Indiana; her father-in-law, Dennis Phelps of Shelbyville; nieces, Cris Bayse of Indianapolis, Angela Durbin of Indiana, Allison Duke of Indiana and Bree Mervin of California; nephews, Joshua Mervin of California, Caleb Read of Taylorsville, Derek Metcalfe of Taylorsville and Travis Ashmore of Taylorsville; a great-niece, Nicole Humphress of Indiana; a great-nephew, Austin Bayse of Indiana; and a very close and special friend, Pam Phelps of Hope & former husband and father of her eldest children Charles Humphress of Columbus. FUNERAL: Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. VISITATION: Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. BURIAL: Inurnment will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2011 at Garland Brook Cemetery. MEMORIALS: Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Central Indiana.
