William Howard Crider, 87, of Elizabethtown, died at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at his home. Mr. Crider was in the U.S. Army serving during World War II and retired from Cummins Engine Company and Hamilton Cosco. He attended Faith Apostolic Church in Carmel, IN. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming and being outdoors and loved spending time with his family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Born in Brown County June 14,1923, Mr. Crider was the son of Joseph Henry and Vina Davis Crider. He married Cora Chena Coffey May 29, 1952. Survivors include his wife, Cora Chena Crider of Elizabethtown; a son, William "Buddy" (Jula) Crider of Indianapolis, IN; daughters, Pamela (Kenny) Calhoun of Columbus, IN, Tammy Shafer of Columbus, IN, Terri (Paul) Tomlinson of Westport, IN, and Beth Patrick of Columbus, IN; grandchildren, Marty, Billie, Scott, Megan, Jason, Michele, Shawn, Emily, Dustin and Ryan; and great-grandchildren, Elliot, Sophia, Emma, Jackson, Audrey, Maria, Felicity, Xander, Phoenix, William, Reanna, Chance, Morgan and Oliver. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Henry Crider and Vina Davis Crider; brothers, Scott, Carl and Acie Crider; sisters, Lottie, Mabel, Lucille, Nancy and Loradia; and grandchildren, Matt, Michael and Jessy. FUNERAL SERVICES: FUNERAL: Will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Matthew Ball and the Rev. Glenn Poynter officiating. VISITATION: Will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service Saturday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by Bartholomew County Color Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to Nightingale Hospice Care, 1036 S. Rangeline Road, Carmel, IN 46032.
